Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs is facing the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, on Wednesday to discuss statements he made about multicultural societies and Suriname. While the coalition parties support Blok, the opposition parties want him to prove that he can still fulfill his role as Foreign Minister after insulting a number of countries.

GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver called on Prime Minister Mark Rutte to distance himself from statements Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs made about multiculturalism. In an open letter to the Prime Minister, Klaver said he can't understand why Rutte hasn't yet done so, NOS reports.

The Surinamese government is not satisfied with a letter of apology that Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs sent after he called Suriname a 'failed state'. Blok's Surinamese counterpart Yldiz Pollack-Beighle calls Blok's apologies "poor" because he "does not take back the inaccuracies he voiced at a closed meeting", NOS reports.

The government of Curacao released a statement distancing itself from statements Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs made about multicultural societies. The island's government "deeply regrets" the statements, because as foreign minister Blok also speaks on behalf of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The Surinamese government would like Blok to apologize for his statements.

Publisher Kluitman decided to remove children's book 'Suriname, here we come' from its stock due to accusations that the book's content is discriminatory or even racist. 

The book offers its young readers fun 'facts' about Suriname. But whether Surinamese people would consider these facts fun is another story. An Amsterdam resident spotted the book while in the library with her child and posted some photos on Facebook. Journalist Anna Krijger shared these on Twitter.

Suriname does not appreciate interference from the Netherlands and other countries, Surinamese president Desi Bouterse said in the Surinamese parliament on Tuesday afternoon, local time. "The Surinamese government attaches great importance to its independence", he said in a discussion about not allowing a new Dutch ambassador in the country, ANP reports.

Two Dutch men still haven't been allowed to see their lawyers. The Court of Justice in Suriname rejected the lawyers' request that their clients' restrictions be lifted on Wednesday, lawyer Raoul Lobo said to ANP.

Two Dutch-Surinamese persons were arrested in Suriname on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities, the Surinamese Ministry of Justice and Police announced on Tuesday. There are no indications of an immediate threat, the statement said, according to NU.nl.

"Until now, facts and circumstances and investigation have not yet revealed that the suspects would have posed risk to a mission or embassy established here", the Ministry said.

Terrence de V., an internationally sought fugitive for a murder in Suriname, was arrested with 140 kilos of cocaine in Amsterdam last year. But due to a mistake, the Dutch authorities did not know that De V. is wanted by the Suriname police. He was released to await his trial in freedom, and disappeared without a trace, Het Parool reports.

A 34-year-old suspect in a shooting in the Zuid-Holland town of Noordeloos, managed to escape from a Suriname penitentiary just days before the country was set to hand him over to the Netherlands, Suriname media reports.

Three members of the Hague rap group Strictly Family Business (SFB) were arrested in Suriname. They are accused of making a video of themselves having sex with an underage girl and then spreading the video, RTL Nieuws reports. The video was made a year ago, according to the broadcaster. 

The three rappers were arrested in a hotel, where they were staying for performances in Suriname. 

SFB was launched in 2013, according to RTL. THe four member group work under hip-hop label Topnotch. The group's managers could not be reached for a comment on the arrests.

The longest delayed flight of 2016 was a TUIfly flight from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to Schiphol. The flight was delayd for 43 hours and 19 minutes, EUClaim - a company that assists aggrieved passangers - announced on Thursday, ANP reports.

The delay started with a technical fault on the original aircraft. The replacement plane from HiFly then crashed into a passenger bridge, which means that another replacement plane had to be sent. This took so long that the flight crew needed to be given time to rest before the flight could begin.

The number of adults held in custody by order of Dutch courts fell in 2015 by 3,450 to 39,790. It represents a decline of nearly eight percent on the 2014 prison population, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), a reversal after two straight years of slight increases.

Customs officers at Schiphol Airport arrested a total of 645 drug traffickers on flights from the Antilles, Suriname and Venezuela last year. That is a 20 percent decrease compared to 2014, a spokesperson for Customs said to broadcaster NOS.
