Since the introduction of the public transit card in 2008, train ticket prices increased by as much as 35 percent, about twice as much as inflation, according to calculations by newspaper AD and treinreiziger.nl.
A quarter of all complaints about public transport in The Netherlands in the last three months have been about the change from paper tickets to the OV-Chipcards. The fact that paper train tickets are going to be entirely discontinued is a woe to many public transport users, the Metro reports.
A Facebook page where train passengers can share, unstamped tickets and discount tickets received over 7000 'Likes' in Utrecht within two days. Now the initiative has been expanded to also include Amsterdam Centraal.
