Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Asscher calls workplace discrimination against pregnant women completely unacceptable, in response to the pregnancy discrimination hotline receiving over 550 complaints in just two weeks.
The Netherlands' new hotline for pregnancy discrimination received over 550 reports from women in just two weeks, the College of Human Rights revealed on Friday, ANP reports.
The bulk of the reports came from women with a temporary or flexible contract, and women working through a temporary employment agency.
"The high number of reports that came in in a relatively short time stresses the urgency of the problem", the college said, according to the news wire. "It makes clear that the current approach to pregnancy discrimination needs to be tightened further."
