The Healthcare and Youth Inspectorate launched an investigation into the Amsterdam Medical Center because of a medical study among patients with bile duct cancer in which 14 patients died. The deaths in the study were much higher than expected, AD reports.

A large study into a new medication for pregnant women with too small fetuses was halted with immediate effect. More babies than expected were born with a lung disease. Eleven children with this condition died shortly after birth, lead researcher Wessel Ganzevoort said to RTL Nieuws.

A medical study among patients with bile duct cancer led by Amsterdam hospital AMC was halted after 14 of the 54 participants died, AD reports.

The study, which was carried out in Amsterdam, Groningen, Maastricht and Rotterdam, started in 2013 and was terminated in 2016 due to the number of deaths. According to AD, the death rate was much higher than expected.
