Almelo man arrested for compatriot's fatal strangulation in German hotel
The police arrested a 42-year-old man from Almelo for an Enschede man’s strangulation murder in a hotel room in Germany. The Almelo man is suspected of involvement in the 35-year-old victim’s murder. According to RTV Oost, the victim used a wheelchair.
The Enschede man was killed at Hotel Rheinpark in Rees, Germany, just across the border near Nijmegen. The victim and the suspect arrived at the hotel on Saturday and went to the room together.
Sources told RTV Oost that they had attended a fireworks show and returned to the hotel room.
When the Enschede man did not check out on Monday, staff went to check on him and found him dead in the room.
The Almelo man did not leave his details, but the police tracked him down quickly. He was arrested at his home on De Burcht in Almelo early Tuesday morning.
A neighbor told the regional broadcaster that the suspect was about to leave. He had packed suitcases placed outside his car when the police arrived and cuffed him.
