Dutch gambling authority reprimands Vbet for illegal World Cup bets
The Dutch Gambling Authority imposed a formal warning on the gambling website Vbet. According to the regulator, Vbet offered illegal betting options during the World Cup. People could bet on things like throw-in, foul, corner kick, or offside.
Not all betting options are permitted during sports matches. According to the Gambling Authority, betting on specific events during a match carries an increased risk of match manipulation. Such bets are therefore prohibited in the Netherlands.
Vbet immediately removed the illegal betting options from its offerings following intervention by the regulator. However, since this is not the first time the Gambling Authority has addressed the company regarding prohibited bets, the regulator has decided to issue a formal warning.
If Vbet commits another violation, the Gambling Authority can take enforcement action, such as imposing a fine.
