Some 270,000 people bought NS discount ticket for cheap summer travel
Approximately 270,000 people have bought NS’s discount pass that allows them to travel by train more cheaply this summer. According to the rail company, this was the first NS subscription for over 80,000 of them.
The Nederland Dal Vrij subscription has been available since mid-June. For €49 per month, people can travel unlimitedly during off-peak hours. Travelers can take out the subscription up to and including July 31. According to NS, users have already collectively covered 120 million kilometers.
The summer promotion runs until August 31. People will have to cancel the subscription themselves at the end; otherwise, it will automatically be renewed at the regular price of nearly €128 per month.
State Secretary Annet Bertram (CDA), who is responsible for public transport, is pleased with the interim results. “With this temporary product, we are making the train more attractive, which is important in these times of high fuel prices,” she said.
The government and transport operators are together looking at a nationwide approach to “lower the barrier to using trains, buses, trams or metros,” Betram added.
