Suspect in ABN Amro worker's fatal stabbing had two prior run-ins with Dutch police
The 37-year-old man suspected of stabbing a 59-year-old woman to death in a parking lot in Nieuw-Vennep in March had two prior run-ins with the police. According to research by NH, suspect Adil Q., an Italian migrant worker with a history of mental health problems, was also caught shoplifting two weeks before the ABN Amro worker’s fatal stabbing and assaulted someone in Amsterdam in December.
On March 30, 59-year-old Karin, a personal assistant at ABN Amro, was fatally stabbed in the parking lot of the train station in Nieuw Vennep, her hometown. The police arrested Q. a day later on Händelplein. The police believe Q. killed Karin at random - the two did not know each other.
According to NH, Q. was a recognized face on that shopping street in Nieuw-Vennep because he was caught shoplifting there two weeks earlier. He was arrested in the area around March 12.
The police also suspect Q. of threatening and assaulting a man in a hostel near Oosterpark in Amsterdam on December 22, 2025. The victim was sleeping in a dorm, a room with multiple bunk beds, when the perpetrator woke him and hit him on the head. He allegedly said: “Shut the fuck up, I am going to kill you.” Sources close to the investigation told NH that Adil Q. will also be prosecuted for this assault.
Sources also told NH that Q. has a history of mental illness and refused care and treatment in his home country. It is unclear what type of illness is involved.
The first hearing in this case is scheduled for Monday. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects the man of manslaughter. It is unclear whether Q. will attend. His lawyer, Thijs Stapel, told NH that Q. has invoked his right to remain silent since his arrest.
Karin’s fatal stabbing in Nieuw-Vennep caused quite a stir because she was killed four days after a direct colleague of hers was found dead in Amsterdam. Karin was the personal assistant of the Amsterdam victim, 40-year-old Leonie, who was found killed in her bathtub. Shortly before her own death, the police even questioned Karin as a witness in Leonie’s case.
Leonie was found dead in her home on March 26 after colleagues at the bank alerted the police because she wasn’t at work and was not responding to calls or texts. Her cause of death is still unknown, but the police and OM believe she was murdered. Her partner, Clen V., was arrested and is still in custody.
According to the authorities, apart from the fact that the two women worked together, there seems to be no connection between their murders.
