Fire destroys multiple holiday homes on beach in Velsen-Noord; One hurt
Several holiday homes burned down on the beach in Velsen-Noord overnight. One person was admitted to the hospital with burns. Firefighters evacuated the surrounding holiday homes as a precaution.
The fire brigade responded to the scene at around 2:00 a.m. They found several beach houses on fire and quickly scaled up their response, deploying several fire trucks to the scene.
“It is much more difficult to access than in the village, so that is a challenge,” a fire brigade spokesperson told NOS about responding to the beach in the Noord-Holland village.
At 3:44 a.m., the fire brigade declared the situation under control, though firefighters were still working on completely extinguishing the blaze. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
Despite the late hour, the fire attracted a large crowd, NOS reported. Evacuated beachgoers stayed to see what would happen to their holiday homes. Many other people also gathered to watch the blaze. “It’s summer vacation, and the surrounding area is busy, so people came to look,” the fire brigade spokesperson told the broadcaster.
