Surfer dies at Ouddorp beach; Kite surfer killed 24 hours earlier in Rockanje

A surfer died Friday afternoon at the beach near Ouddorp in Zuid-Holland after being found unconscious in the water at the Brouwersdam, while a kitesurfer was killed Thursday in Rockanje on Voorne-Putten after being blown into dunes in strong wind conditions, Rijnmond reports.

The victim in Ouddorp was discovered around 12:30 p.m. on the inner side of the Brouwersdam, the coastal structure linking Zeeland and Zuid-Holland. Another surfer found the person in the water.

Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, were dispatched to the scene. Resuscitation efforts were carried out, but the victim could not be saved.

In a separate incident on Thursday, a man died while kite surfing in Rockanje on Voorne-Putten. Strong winds reportedly carried him into the dunes, where he struck the ground hard. He was also resuscitated at the scene, but emergency responders were unable to revive him.
