More female inventors in the Netherlands, but few launch tech startups

The European Patent Office reports that the number of female inventors in the Netherlands is rising, but most do not go on to start technology companies. While women’s participation in innovation has increased, a large gap remains between female inventors and female tech startup founders, De Telegraaf reports.

The report notes that even though women are increasingly involved in patent applications, they are still less likely than men to turn innovation into technology businesses.

The report identifies structural barriers as a major obstacle, citing limited access to funding, restricted professional networks, a lack of role models and gender stereotypes that can slow or block entrepreneurial activity.

It says closing the gap will require targeted policies to encourage more women to start technology companies. This would include improved access to financing, mentorship and stronger professional networks.
