Police arrest driver after six stowaways found in Vlaardingen truck

Dutch police discovered six stowaways in a truck trailer during a border control check in the port area of Vlaardingen on Friday evening, Rijnmond reports. The individuals, attempting to travel illegally abroad, were from Afghanistan and Iraq. One of the six was a minor.

A Turkish truck driver transporting the trailer was arrested on suspicion of human smuggling. The six stowaways were taken into custody.

On Monday, February 16, Koninklijke Marechaussee officers found 17 stowaways in a refrigerated truck at Hoek van Holland, preparing to board a ferry to the United Kingdom.

Six of the individuals were children. The group included 14 Turkish nationals, two from Kuwait, and one from Iran.
