Utrecht Mayor Sharon Dijksma nominated for second 6-year term
The Utrecht city council has nominated Sharon Dijksma for reappointment as mayor of Utrecht. The city council would “love to see her serve another six years,” it announced on Thursday.
Dijksma has been mayor of Utrecht since December 2020. “We know her to be committed and decisive, and we greatly appreciate the way she carries out her role,” city councilor Maarten van Heuven said.
Dijksma already indicated last year that she would like a second term. She is delighted with the support from the city council. “I want to continue building this beautiful city, the compassionate heart of the Netherlands, the city of St. Maarten, with pride, self-confidence, and courage,” Dijksma said.
The city will submit its recommendation to the Minister of Home Affairs, who will pass the recommendation on to the King. The mayor will then be reappointed by Royal Decree. The Minister and King typically follow the city council’s recommendation.
After the Royal Decree, Dijksma will be installed for her second term as mayor of Utrecht in December.
