Pilot, flight attendant barred after testing positive for alcohol at Schiphol
A pilot and a flight attendant were prevented from flying Saturday morning after alcohol tests at Schiphol Airport showed elevated levels in their blood, Dutch authorities reported. Aircraft personnel are prohibited from consuming alcohol within ten hours of a flight.
According to AD, the flight attendant exceeded the legal limit of 0.2 percent blood alcohol. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) fined the crew member 1,100 euros and imposed a five-hour flight ban.
The pilot had consumed alcohol but remained below the legal limit. The OM issued a one-hour flight ban, and the airline prohibited him from flying for the remainder of the day.
Authorities did not disclose which airlines employed the two crew members.
The checks were part of routine screenings conducted by the Aviation Supervision Team and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. In total, 212 cockpit and cabin personnel were tested. Such controls are regularly carried out at airports across the Netherlands.
