Three fatal road accidents in Hoek van Holland, Groningen, and Rotterdam
There were three fatal traffic accidents on the roads throughout the Netherlands on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. The three victims were all relatively young, with ages of 18, 22, and 25. The incidents occurred in Hoek van Holland, Groningen, and Rotterdam.
A 22-year-old woman died Tuesday evening in Hoek van Holland while riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. The 42-year-old motorcyclist, who was unharmed, has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, the police said Wednesday.
The crash occurred on Hoeksebaan in the Zuid-Holland coastal town, and authorities are investigating both the accident and the driver’s role.
A 25-year-old man from Winschoten died at the scene of a traffic accident near Alteveer in Groningen on Wednesday morning, police said. The drivers of the other two vehicles were examined by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment.
The three-car collision occurred around 7:00 a.m. on the N366, prompting the deployment of multiple emergency services. “Despite efforts to help, the victim could not be saved,” authorities said.
Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash. Groningen was under a yellow warning for slippery conditions until 11 a.m., and the accident site was reportedly slick. “Whether this contributed to the crash remains to be confirmed,” a police spokesperson added.
An 18-year-old man from Brandwijk also died this morning in a single-vehicle crash on Geerweg in Bleskensgraaf, Rotterdam. His car had gone off the road into the water nearby.
