Police share photo of man wanted in connection with Tilburg shooting
The police have released the name and footage of a man accused of being the shooter in an incident on Tuesday evening on Corellistraat in Tilburg, near the Stokhasselt district. “Detectives are doing everything possible to locate the man,” the police said, “and are asking for the public’s help to do so.”
Authorities have identified the suspect as Badr Wong Tham Soeng. His images have been shared through the police’s social media platforms. According to the footage, he has a slender build and was last seen wearing a dark blue tracksuit with side stripes and light-colored sneakers.
Police have advised anyone who sees the man not to approach him, as he may be armed. They are urged instead to call the emergency number 112. In their statement, police also called on the man to surrender as soon as possible.
At the scene, officers discovered three damaged homes, a car with visible damage, several shell casings, and traces of blood in a residential area. Shortly after the shooting, two wounded men from Tilburg, aged 22 and 30, arrived at a hospital. Both were taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
According to the police, the shooting appears to have been a targeted act. In addition to the two injured men, other individuals are believed to have been involved, and further arrests have not been ruled out.
Immediately after the shooting, multiple residents reported hearing loud gunfire and seeing several people fleeing the scene. The incident has deeply unsettled the Stokhasselt neighborhood, a family-oriented area centered around Corellistraat.
Police emphasized that, while the attack seems to have been targeted, the use of a firearm in a residential street posed a serious risk to public safety. In response, additional patrols have been deployed in the area in the following days to monitor the situation and reassure concerned residents.
Tilburg’s mayor, Onno Hoes, has decided to close the home involved in the shooting. “The Tuesday shooting has deeply affected the community,” Hoes told Omroep Brabant. “People are upset, anxious, and fearful, feelings I completely understand. I share their concern, which is why I’ll be meeting with residents and local professionals on Monday afternoon to talk about the incident and explore ways to strengthen safety in the area.”
On Thursday, a police tactical unit carried out a raid at a residence on Corellistraat. However, the operation did not result in any arrests.
