Museumnacht Amsterdam draws 30,000 in smooth, sold-out 25th edition
The 25th edition of Museumnacht Amsterdam, held on the night from Saturday to Sunday, drew a full house and proceeded without incidents, organizers reported.
Seventy museums across the city opened their doors from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., welcoming a sold-out crowd of 30,000 attendees. “The turnout, as usual, is exceptionally high,” said Jordy den Haan, a spokesperson for the event.
The event, which has grown into a staple of Amsterdam’s cultural calendar, offered visitors the chance to explore museums late into the night with special programs, performances, and exhibits.
Den Haan described the night as primarily “cozy” and noted that, aside from a brief rain shower shortly after midnight, the night remained relatively dry.
Last year’s Museumnacht had been disrupted by activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) at the Rijksmuseum. The museum closed its doors in response after XR demanded it end its collaboration with ING, citing the bank’s investments in the oil and gas industry. Den Haan emphasized the difference: “This year’s edition was relaxed and without disruptions.”
