Three minors sentenced for May riots in Scheveningen
Three minors, aged 14, 15, and 17, have been sentenced to community service ranging from 30 to 70 hours for their involvement in violent riots in Scheveningen earlier this year. According to NOS, the youth court found them guilty of public violence.
The incidents occurred in early May near the Kurhaus, where hundreds of youths clashed with police. Officers from the Mobile Unit were pelted with stones, bicycles, and glass.
Rioters also caused damage to street furniture and property belonging to local businesses. The three convicted minors were identified in surveillance footage.
The Public Prosecution Service had requested community service of 60 to 80 hours. The court considered the defendants’ ages, personal circumstances, and the severity and impact of the unrest when determining their sentences.
In a related case, a 19-year-old involved in the disturbances received a 70-hour community service sentence, in line with the prosecution’s demand.
