Military to begin armored vehicle exercises in Rivierengebied

The Dutch military will begin training Monday in the Rivierengebied, a riverine region in central-eastern Netherlands spanning parts of Gelderland and Utrecht along the Waal, Lek, and Nederrijn rivers. Exercises will use armored vehicles and reconnaissance units across public roads, the Ministry of Defense said.

Operations will take place in the area between Lexmond, Beesd, Amerongen, Tiel, Rhenen, and Ochten. According to Omroep Gelderland, participating troops are armed but do not carry live or training ammunition. Vehicles will include Fennek reconnaissance vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and Amarok pickup SUVs.

The Ministry of Defense stressed it is taking measures to prevent damage. Residents who experience any property damage are advised to report it via [email protected], providing as many details as possible, including the unit, vehicle license plate, date, time, location, and type of damage.

The exercise follows several recent military drills in the province. Last week, the international operation Falcon Leap began, involving paratroopers from 11 countries practicing jumps near Leusden. The operation continues next week over Ginkelse Heide in Ede, with low-flying transport aircraft visible across large parts of the country.
