64-year-old Dutch woman found dead in 300-meter gorge in Northwestern Greece

A 64-year-old woman from Limburg who went missing while hiking in Greece was found dead Friday in a 300-meter gorge in the Pindos mountains, authorities said, according to NOS.

Her body was located with drones in the Vikos Gorge, a steep canyon and popular tourist destination in northwestern Greece, according to the news site To Vima. A specialized rescue unit with climbers was dispatched to recover her body.

The search was complicated by the mountainous terrain, Greek officials said.

The woman disappeared Thursday near a lookout point along the gorge while walking with her husband. He had gone ahead to take photographs, and when he returned she was gone. After failing to find her, he alerted emergency services.
