No trace of Syrian woman, 24, possibly abducted in Almere; “Huge mystery,” police say
The police have received several tips in their search for the 24-year-old Syrian woman who has been missing since Thursday. The police fear that the woman, who lives in Almere, is the victim of a serious crime.
Omar Alhamad, a 34-year-old Syrian man, is suspected of involvement in the crime. According to a spokesperson, the tips have not yet led to the discovery of the victim or the suspect.
The police still have no idea where the two are located. “That is a big mystery for us,” said the spokesperson. There are fears for the woman’s life.
“I cannot say anything about their relationship or the reason why something happened there, only that they know each other,” said the spokesperson. Before the weekend, the police launched a large-scale investigation team and are working intensively behind the scenes.
Nationwide awareness is being raised about the disappearance, including at train stations and bus stops. Online, the police have shared images of both the woman and the suspect.
The woman was last seen at Albert Heijn on the Olivier van Noortstraat in Almere on Thursday. She is presumed to have gotten into the suspect’s car at around 10 a.m. Whether she did so voluntarily is unclear to the police. “We don’t even know for sure if she got into the car or how that happened, so if anyone has seen more or has footage, we would like to hear from them.’”
