Dutch girl, 3, drowns in pool in Spain

A 3-year-old Dutch girl has drowned in a swimming pool in Spain, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to RTL Nieuws. The child’s parents found her floating in the pool near a villa in the Pinos de Alhaurin neighborhood of Malaga.

The Spanish emergency services responded to the scene around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the broadcaster, first responders pulled the child out of the water and tried to resuscitate her, but it was to no avail. She was declared dead at the scene.

The Spanish newspaper El País reported that the girl’s body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Malaga for an autopsy. The Guardia Civil is investigating how the child ended up in the water.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs told RTL that it is aware of the incident, but has not yet received a request for consular assistance.
