Sinterklaas's horse, Amerigo 2.0, dies after three peaceful years of retirement

A sad week for Sinterklaas. His iconic horse, Amerigo 2.0, died on Monday at the age of 30, announced De Paardekamp in Soest, where the horse enjoyed three peaceful years of retirement.

Amerigo 2.0 was Sinterklaas’s horse between 2014 and 2020. He faithfully galloped across rooftops in countless episodes and films and stole the hearts of many children. Last winter, he appeared on screen for the last time, in a miniseries in which Sinterklaas visited him for a final reunion.

“Amerigo was able to enjoy three wonderful years of retirement at De Paardekamp and reached the admirable age of 30,” De Paardekamp foundation wrote on Instagram. He enjoyed grassy fields, endless sunshine, and admiring visitors.

On Monday, an unexpected internal hemorrhage abruptly ended the horse’s life. An onsite veterinarian was able to quickly put him to rest, the foundation told AD.

“We will miss him terribly,” the foundation said.
