Ajax defender Jorrel Hato to join Chelsea in 40 million euros deal
Jorrel Hato will be leaving Ajax to join English side Chelsea. The clubs have reached an agreement regarding a transfer sum of over 40 million euros, with various media outlets reporting that the fee can rise further due to bonuses.
Chelsea have been trying to sign the 19-year-old defender for months. Ajax technical director Alex Kross was holding out for a transfer fee of 50 million euros. But Ajax need the money from the sale to improve their squad, which led to both sides agreeing to a lower fee.
Hato played a total of 75 games for Ajax’s first team and Jong Ajax, scoring seven goals in the process. He captained the team on several occasions. The defender, who was originally a centre back but now often plays as a left back, has played six games for the Dutch national side.
Ajax, which finished second in the Eredivisie last season after a heartbreaking end to the season, is hoping to finalize the signing of Oscar Gloukh this week. The 21-year-old winger from Israel has already said goodbye to his teammates at RB Salzburg.
Ajax will pay over 14 million euros for Gloukh. According to De Telegraaf, the Amsterdammers are also looking into signing Ko Itakura. The Japanese defender is currently playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
