Dutch customs seize 4,500 kilograms of cocaine hidden in Amsterdam port shipment
Amsterdam customs intercepted a large shipment of cocaine on Friday afternoon in the port of Amsterdam. Authorities discovered 4,500 kilograms of cocaine concealed within a shipment of wood inside a container arriving from West Africa, NOS reports.
The container’s arrival prompted customs to conduct an intensified inspection based on a risk analysis. Officials employed sniffer dogs and scanning equipment to thoroughly examine the cargo.
Customs officials described the cocaine as “professionally packaged,” indicating an organized and high-level smuggling operation. The drugs were confiscated immediately following their discovery.
The seized cocaine will be destroyed according to Dutch law. Authorities continue to investigate the shipment’s origin and intended destination.
