Man in The Hague steals police officer's car before crashing it into police station
A man in The Hague was arrested for allegedly stealing a police officer’s private car and crashing it into the side of the police station just hours after he had been released from a cell, the AD reported. The incident happened at the Burgemeester Patijnlaan on Thursday evening.
The man was arrested on account of joyriding and driving under the influence after police received a report at 9:30 p.m. concerning an accident at the parking area next to the station.
The vehicle, which seemed to be a silver Opel Corsa, and the building took slight damage. A bottle of vodka was found near the scene by officers. It is unclear whether the man had stolen the key to the vehicle or had broken into the car.
The suspect was put back in a cell. A spokesperson for the police confirmed the incident but would not share the details of why the man had been arrested earlier in the day. Police will now further investigate the incident.
