Suspect of fatal stabbing in Amsterdam also accused of possessing child sex abuse videos

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has extended the charges against 28-year-old Olton K., the suspect in a fatal stabbing on the Hoofddorpplein in Amsterdam on August 9. Prosecutors found child sex abuse videos on five hard drives that had been seized from the suspect. Police also found a gas pistol in his room.

This information came forth from a plenary session in the trial against K. with the district court in Amsterdam. The OM wants the new accusations to be included in the ongoing trial against the man. The court granted this request.

The 23-year-old victim of the stabbing on the Hoofddorpplein died at the scene. Police arrested a different suspect initially, who turned out to have nothing to do with the case.

They arrested K. a week after the stabbing. The events caused unrest in the area of the incident. K. is currently being evaluated at the Pieter Baan Centre, a psychiatric observation clinic. He denies that he was the culprit of the fatal stabbing.

The total images of child sex abuse on K.’s devices consists of 188 videos and 243 photos, the OM has said. The material was found several months ago. K. has not made any statements about these accusations as of yet. He bought the gas-pressure weapon online, the prosecutors said.

The court denied a request made by K. and his attorney to end the pre-trial detention. According to the court, the evidence is strong enough to keep the man detained. K. is now also being held in pre-trial detention on the charge of possessing child sex abuse videos.

The next plenary hearing is on August 6. The criminal trial will begin on December 3.
