Dutch Queen Máxima, PM Schoof will attend Pope Leo XIV's inauguration on Sunday

Queen Máxima and Prime Minister Dick Schoof will go to Vatican City on Sunday for the inauguration of Pople Leo XIV, the government information service RVD announced on Wednesday.

The inauguration will start with a mass at 10:00 a.m. on St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican announced earlier. World leaders and religious leaders have been invited to attend.

The inauguration of Pope Francis in 2013 attracted an estimated 200,000 people, according to ANP.

The Dutch royal family did not attend Pope Francis’s funeral. He died on Easter Monday. The funeral was held on Saturday, April 26, the same day that the Netherlands celebrated King’s Day. Prime Minister Schoof and Minister Caspar Veldkamp of Foreign Affairs represented the Netherlands at the funeral.
