Dutch tourist, 31, missing after walking in mountains in Como, Italy
Emergency services in the province of Como, Italy, are searching for a 31-year-old Dutchman who went missing while hiking in the mountains alone on Monday afternoon. A massive search with “a small army” of rescue workers came up with nothing on Tuesday, the Italian newspaper La Provincia reported.
The man is on holiday with his wife and child in Livo. He went hiking in the mountains alone on Monday afternoon. His wife contacted the authorities in the evening when he failed to return.
The Italian authorities deployed the fire brigade, police, rescue workers, and volunteers to comb the area. Helicopters and drones were also used to search the nature reserve. The search was called off when it became too dark to see. It will resume today.
According to La Provincia, no trace of the Dutchman has been found as yet. His phone is unreachable.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NOS that a Dutchman is missing in Italy. The Ministry is providing consular assistance.
