Dutch Parliament put on lockdown after man enters building with stabbing weapon
An individual carrying a stabbing weapon was arrested after entering the building temporarily housing the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Parliament. Portions of the building were placed on lockdown after the man was arrested by the Marechaussee, the military service present at the building.
Sources who wished to remain anonymous said a man with a knife jumped over the gates. Security staff working at the Tweede Kamer would not comment on the matter.
The facility on Prinses Irenepad was secured as a response to the incident, including the area around the Plenary Hall, the main room where members hold debates.
A debate on immigration and asylum had just been suspended for a dinner break shortly before the incident. Another hearing held by the Foreign Affairs Committee was interrupted because of the arrest.
The entrances were closed due to the incident. A smaller staff-only entrance was reopened by 7:07 p.m.
