Students protest teacher relocation at Rotterdam school

A large-scale student protest erupted at the Marnix Gymnasium in Rotterdam-West on Tuesday afternoon. Hundreds of students gathered outside the school, voicing their dissatisfaction with the relocation of teachers, which they claim is being done without transparency from the administration.

The protest began at 9:30 a.m. when students walked out of their classrooms, refusing to attend lessons for the rest of the day. Many students stood near the school's gates, where some set off fireworks, shouted chants, and expressed their frustration with loud jeers.

Lucas*, a student participating in the protest, explained that students had formed strong relationships with the teachers who are being moved. "We have good connections with the teachers who are being relocated. We weren't given any clarity from the school about the situation, so we decided to go on strike," Lucas said.

The protest, originally scheduled for Friday, was postponed due to a gas leak that disrupted the school's activities. The strike was rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Parents of the students received an invitation on February 4 for a parent-teacher meeting scheduled for March 26. The school administration is expected to respond later in the afternoon regarding the ongoing protest.
