Man who drove into group of people outside Eindhoven coffeeshop is a 25-year-old Belgian
The driver of a car that drove into a group of people in Eindhoven on Wednesday is a 25-year-old man from Belgium. The suspect handed himself in to police on Thursday afternoon and is currently detained, the police reported on Friday.
A man drove into a group of people twice after an argument had occurred outside of the Pink Coffee Shop on the Willemstraat. The owner of the coffee shop said that the altercation began when one person was ejected from the coffee shop for disrespectful behavior towards staff. This led to an argument and then a fight on the street.
It is said that the suspect threatened the others before storming into his car with his girlfriend and driving into people on the street. He then made a U-turn before driving into the group again.
Police arrested two suspects at the scene of the incident. One of the people was arrested as a result of threats, and the other got “that involved with the arrest that he was also arrested,” police said on Wednesday.
Two people were injured during the incident. Their condition is unclear. A conflict allegedly took place prior to the incident. The police are still investigating the exact cause of the incident.
