Video: Fireworks thrown as PSV fans brawl with Red Star counterparts in Belgrade
PSV supporters clashed with Red Star Belgrade fans in the Serbian capital on Monday night, the eve before the Champions League match between the two teams. Footage on social media shows fireworks thrown back and forth and fighting between the supporters. Several Red Star reporters were arrested, a police spokesperson told Omroep Brabant.
PSV fans who were in a pub in the Belgrade center were warned not to go outside because Serbian supporters were walking around with knives and iron bars, a present PSV fan told the broadcaster. “Someone started shouting at the entrance that we were not allowed to go outside.” Earlier, a post circulated on social media in which Red Star reporters “challenged” PSV fans to walk around the city.
Two cops from the Oost Brabant Police are in Belgrade to assist the local police around the match. There were several incidents overnight and multiple Serbian supporters were arrested, a spokesperson for the Dutch police told Omroep Brabant. No Dutch supporters were arrested and no injuries were reported, he said.
Around 2,000 PSV fans are expected in Belgrade for the match. PSV designated a central point in the city where Dutch fans can gather safely on Tuesday afternoon. A group of supporters also organized a private party in a pub with space for 400 PSV fans.
