Netherlands was Germany's third biggest trade partner last year

The Netherlands was Germany’s third most important trading partner in 2024. This was reported by the German press agency DPA based on a report from a German government agency. The preliminary figures for the Netherlands have improved due to Germany’s use of the port of Rotterdam.

DPA does not provide specific figures on trade with the Netherlands. The United States has displaced China from the first place as Germany’s most important trading partner for the first time since 2016. Total imports and exports to and from the U.S. amounted to 255 billion euros last year, approximately 8 billion more than trade with China, according to DPA, which bases its findings on an as-yet unpublished study by the German organization GTAI. France and Poland are in fourth and fifth place.

Conversely, Germany is the most important trading partner for the Netherlands. Although the U.S. is also becoming important for the Netherlands in that respect, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported in November.

According to figures from the German statistical office Destatis from 2023, the Netherlands also came in third place among Germany’s most important trading partners that year. That year, China just surpassed the United States. Other important trading partners of Germany were Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.
