Fog again disrupting flights to and from the Netherlands; Delays already piling up
Visibility issues caused by fog are again impacting air and road traffic in the Netherlands on Friday morning. Even before 8:00 a.m., Schiphol Airport reported dozens of delays and some cancellations, mainly affecting arriving flights.
The fog is mainly impacting incoming flights at Schiphol on Friday morning. The airport reported that 94 arrivals were delayed and six had been canceled. Departures were less affected, with 11 delays and eight cancelations.
Eindhoven Airport reported a handful of delays, which also mainly impacted arrivals. Rotterdam The Hague Airport did not report any issues.
This is the third day in a row that fog-caused visibility issues resulted in a rocky start for the Dutch airports.
The KNMI has a code yellow warning in place for most of the country, warning of fog reducing visibility to less than 200 meters in some places. The warning covers all provinces except the Wadden Islands and Zeeland. The meteorological institute expects the fog to clear up by noon.
The Rijkswaterstaat and ANWB also urged road users to drive extra carefully on Friday - slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and turn on the appropriate lighting. The ANWB did not expect much traffic during rush hour on Friday morning, despite the weather. At 7:50 a.m., the travelers’ organization recorded only 14 traffic jams, covering 55 kilometers of Dutch roads.
