19-year-old from The Hague arrested for theft while impersonating a police officer
A 19-year-old from The Hague was arrested on Thursday, January 2, for impersonating a police officer. The suspect was able to steal jewelry from a 74-year-old woman using this method.
A report about the suspect was filed at 9:50 p.m. about a possible act of fraud on the Kalslagering in Nieuw-Vennep. The suspect was found after a short search.
A part of the stolen items were found when he was arrested with more items found nearby after the help of a police dog. The suspect is currently detained, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police officers are forced to identify themselves when asked. Police urge anyone feeling suspicious regarding the identity of a police officer to call the emergency number 112 and to note down as many qualities they can. They also urge people to try to photograph the fake officer or his vehicle, but only if this is possible.
