Police shoot two gun threat suspects during Rotterdam chase
Police in the Rotterdam district of Hoogvliet fired at two suspects during a high-speed chase Tuesday evening, leaving both men injured. The incident unfolded after officers responded to a report of a firearm threat in nearby Hellevoetsluis.
Around midnight, officers located the two suspects in a car. When the vehicle sped off, a chase ensued. Authorities said that initially, officers fired warning shots, but later resorted to shooting directly at the fleeing vehicle.
Both suspects, a 20-year-old man from Rotterdam and a 35-year-old from Capelle aan den IJssel, were apprehended and taken to the hospital with injuries.
During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, police discovered an object resembling a firearm.
The Dutch National Criminal Investigation Department (Rijksrecherche) has launched an investigation into the police shooting, a standard procedure when officers discharge their weapons and individuals are injured.
