Another gray Christmas for the Netherlands
For the 14th consecutive year, the Netherlands will experience a Christmas without snow, according to forecasts by Weeronline. Instead, the holiday is expected to be gray, mild, and mostly dry, a continuation of recent trends during the festive season.
The weather for Christmas week has been marked by unseasonable warmth. Daytime highs will range from 8 to 10 degrees on both Christmas Day and the day after, significantly above the seasonal average of 6 degrees. A brief cooler spell is expected later in the week as southeastern winds bring chillier air, with temperatures dropping to around 5 degrees by the weekend.
While the holiday will remain dry, skies will be dominated by cloud cover. On the first day of Christmas, the nation is forecasted to see persistent gray skies, with limited sunshine. A slight improvement is anticipated for the second day of Christmas, with pockets of sunshine breaking through in some regions. From Friday onward, brighter conditions may emerge, although temperatures will dip slightly.
The week leading up to Christmas began with heavy winds and stormy conditions. Gusts in coastal areas reached speeds of 100 km/h, prompting Code Yellow weather warnings in the north of the country.
Weeronline meteorologists attribute the lack of snow to a combination of mild temperatures and dominant weather systems over the Netherlands in recent Decembers. Snowfall during the holiday period is becoming increasingly rare.
Despite the absence of snow, the mild and dry conditions will make travel easier for holidaymakers across the Netherlands. Shoppers, families, and travelers can expect minimal weather-related disruptions, a relief after the stormy start to the week.
