Man arrested after threatening people with distribution of sexually explicit material

A 28-year-old man from Groningen was arrested on Monday because he threatened to share sexually explicit material, the police reported on Wednesday. He was asked for money in exchange for not sharing the images. He received more than 10,000 euros from his victims in total.

A total of 17 criminal reports were filed about the suspect throughout the country. The man spoke with other men via a dating app. He was pretending to be an adult woman but then said after a while that the person he was impersonating was actually underage. He then threatened to share the sexually explicit contact on social media or with the police.

With one victim, the suspect also threatened to distribute a photo he had in his hands. He had likely stolen the photo by hacking into the victim's cell phone.

The suspect was arrested with the charges of extortion, threats, slander, and libel.
