Max Verstappen finishes sixth in last race of F1 season; McLaren win constructors title

Max Verstappen finished sixth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday. This was the last race of the F1 season. Lando Norris won the race at the Yas Marina Circuit, which also ensured that McLaren won the constructor’s title for the season. Verstappen had already won the F1 title for this season.

Verstappen’s chances of finishing in a podium spot were more or less ended when he hit Oscar Piastri in the first corner and was ordered to sit a 10-second time penalty.

The reigning champion fought his way back to sixth after his time penalty but did see Lewis Hamilton go past him shortly before the end of the race in what was Hamilton’s last race for Mercedes.

Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Pérez finished what was likely his last race for Red Bull in a disappointing manner. He hit Valtteri Bottas in the first lap, which meant that his car had to be retired.

The constructor’s title was between McLaren and Ferrari. Despite a significant push by Charles Leclerc in his Ferrari, he was not able to catch Norris, who won the race and McLaren the title.
