Two arrested in Purmerend after violent night brawl
Two men were arrested early Saturday morning in connection with a violent altercation in the Nieuwstraat area of Purmerend, which left several individuals injured, including police officers. The suspects, aged 36 and 38, are both from Purmerend.
The incident began around 3:30 a.m. when the police were alerted to a brawl at a local café. Witnesses reported that the fight involved multiple people, with some exchanging heavy blows. Authorities have not confirmed whether a knife was used during the altercation, though this remains part of their ongoing investigation.
Upon arriving at the scene, police quickly responded with several units to manage the chaos. Emergency medical teams treated the injured on-site, and at least one victim was transported to the hospital for further care.
The two suspects, both locals, resisted arrest and engaged in violent behavior toward the police. They allegedly threatened and insulted officers during their detention. A formal complaint has been filed against them for assaulting officers.
The motive behind the violence is still unclear, and police have stated that they are continuing to investigate the cause of the altercation. Officers have questioned witnesses and will allow the suspects to provide their own statements.
