Four accidents cause major traffic around Amsterdam
Traffic around Amsterdam faced significant delays on Saturday due to four separate accidents, with the southern ring road and surrounding highways heavily impacted, according to ANWB Traffic Information.
Between the Coenplein and Amstel junctions on the A10 ring road, a collision caused a 10-kilometer traffic jam. By 2 p.m., drivers were experiencing delays of nearly 30 minutes. Earlier in the day, traffic on the southern A10 ring road was already moving slowly due to another accident.
Motorists traveling toward Amersfoort on the southern ring road were initially advised to use the A9 as an alternate route. However, a crash on the A9 involving three vehicles rendered that detour unusable. The delay between Badhoevedorp and Amstelveen-Stadshart on the A9 stretched to 45 minutes, according to ANWB reports.
The delays occurred as construction work continued on the A10 South. The connecting road to the A4, leading to Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam, has been closed since Friday evening for reconstruction work at the De Nieuwe Meer junction. The closure will remain in effect until Monday morning.
Despite the construction, ANWB stated that Saturday's traffic disruptions were mainly due to the accidents and not the ongoing roadwork.
Further closures are planned for the A10 South in the coming weekends, with the connecting road to the A4 set to be shut down again for additional reconstruction work.
