Police looking for anonymous caller in woman's cold case disappearance from 1990

Police are looking for a man who reported finding bones years ago in the area where 18-year-old Angelique Hendrix from Stein, who went missing in 1990, lived at the time. Angelique's skull has been found since then. The police said this on Thursday during a special episode of the TV show Opsporing Verzocht, which was filmed on location at the town hall in Stein.

The man in question called anonymously in 1988 saying that his dog had dug up bones near the area in Limburg which is close to the E314 motorway. Police searched the area at the time but nothing was found.

Police may want to search again as there are currently broader possibilities for soil research, but they would like to get in touch with the anonymous caller from that time before doing so.

A nature area in Maasmechelen, Belgium, was searched last month in connection with this cold case. A skull had been found there in 1991, but it was only recently determined that this belonged to Hendrix because of DNA research. No other body parts or items were found during the search.

According to Angelique’s brother, she was going to her friend Mirjam’s house in Elsloo on that day. It is unclear whether Angelique arrived at Mirjam’s house or whether she was actually planning on going there. Mirjam also went missing six years later and was murdered.

This was the third time that Opsporing Verzocht was filmed at the location. The Mobiel Media Lab, which is a large police truck, will be at the weekly market in Stein on Wednesday. People can go there if they know more about the case, there is a 30,000 euro reward for information that leads to the resolution of this case.

Police said that they received 54 tips about the case, with 14 of those as a direct result of the Opsporing Verzocht episode.
