Schiphol port fee could jump by another 37 percent; Already 40 percent higher than 2022

Schiphol plans to increase its airport fees by 37 percent for the 2025-2027 period, sources told Luchtvaartnieuws.nl and Parool. Airlines are furious after already facing a port fee increase of 40 percent in 2022.

The airport will officially announce the increase on Thursday afternoon, Parool’s sources said. Schiphol Airport already indicated that it would increase rates to help cover its plans to heavily invest in maintenance and innovation in the coming years.

According to Luchtvaartnieuws, several airlines are very dissatisfied with the new hike, calling it unheard of. They plan to appeal against the new rates. The airlines will likely pass on at least part of the increase by rising ticket prices.

After 2022’s 40 percent rate hike, Schiphol became one of the top three most expensive airports in Europe, alongside London Heathrow and Frankfurt.

On Wednesday, the Volkskrant reported that Richard Emmerink, Schiphol’s strategic director, was leaving the airport due to a “difference of opinion.” Emmerink worked on sustainability and improving the lives of the people who live around Schiphol Airport.

Schiphol would not comment on Emmerink’s departure to Parool on Thursday.
