Manchester United parts way with Erik ten Hag after disappointing results
Erik ten Hag is no longer the coach of Manchester United, the English club announced on Monday. Despite leading the team to two domestic trophies since taking the coach position in April 2022, Ten Hag couldn’t bring Manchester United to the top.
His team lost a tough match to West Ham on Sunday night, when the Red Devils’ Matthijs de Ligt collided with Danny Ings in the box at the end of the match. A penalty was awarded, and struck home by Jarrod Bowen, giving the Hammers a 2-1 victory at home.
After nine matches this season, Manchester United is now sitting in 14th place on the Premier League table. They have 11 points so far, their second-worst in team history after nine matches. They counted ten points at this stage in the 2019-20 season, which led to Ten Hag’s arrival a short time later.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” Manchester United said. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim head coach while the club looks for a permanent replacement.
Under Ten Hag’s coaching, Manchester United won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
