People evacuated at Schiphol after false fire alarm went off, flights delayed

Hundreds of people were evacuated at Schiphol Airport after a fire alarm went off. However, the fire alarm at the Amsterdam airport on Saturday morning was a false alarm, the spokesperson for the airport said on Saturday afternoon. It is unclear how this could have happened and is currently being investigated. As a result of the evacuation, some flights were delayed, according to the spokesperson.

The fire department was also aware of a fire report. However, whether a fire has actually broken out at Amsterdam Airport remained unclear on Saturday morning. The airport spokesperson also said he did not know if a fire broke out.

The Schiphol spokesperson said there was a fire alarm at Pier D at around 11 a.m. This was then evacuated, covering both the Schengen and non-Schengen areas. The people were escorted outside and waited for further measures to be taken.

At the moment, however, it is unclear what consequences the evacuation will have for travelers, NU.nl wrote. The airport will provide more information later, the spokesperson said.
