Joost Klein back in NL after Eurovision disqualification; Damaged a camera, reports say

Joost Klein is back in the Netherlands after getting disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest over an incident with a camerawoman. He arrived at Lelystad Airport on a private plane at around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, RTL Nieuws reports.

A source told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that Klein behaved very aggressively towards the camerawoman after his performance in the semi-final on Thursday. The source said the woman was left with a seriously damaged camera and was very upset. According to the newspaper, several people witnessed the incident.

The European Broadcasting Union has a zero-tolerance policy for threats and violence against its employees and disqualified Klein from the finals. The Dutch public broadcaster NPO objected to the disqualification, partly on behalf of AVROTROS, which is responsible for the Dutch entry. AVROTROS insists that Klein only made a “threatening motion” toward the camera woman and called the decision to disqualify him disproportionate.

According to RTL, Klein spent most of Sunday at the hotel in Malmo before returning to the Netherlands on a private plane with his manager and security guard. Appie Mussa and Stuntkabouter, who were also part of Klein’s act, made the short flight back on a regular flight with the rest of the Dutch delegation. They also arrived at Schiphol on Sunday.
