Dutch regulator investigating bol.com for favoring some sellers above others

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is investigating online retailer bol.com for allegedly favoring itself and certain entrepreneurs. Bol.com said it is fully cooperating with the investigation.

According to the ACM, several companies have reported that their products are less visible on the online platform, even if they offer the best price or quality. “They state that the offers from the online platform itself or from certain entrepreneurs are given preference.” The ACM also received reports that bol.com used data from entrepreneurs to strengthen its own position on the platform.

The ACM has requested information from bol.com, which the platform is obliged to provide. The regulator will investigate whether bol.com is breaking the law.

“It goes without saying that we will fully cooperate with the ACM investigation,” bol.com said. “Our colleagues work hard to provide the supervisor with all the necessary information to ensure the investigation runs smoothly.”

The company said it takes the responsibility of online platforms to create a reliable environment very seriously. “We are always looking for ways to improve our platform and look forward to the investigation with confidence.”
