Suspect caught in France in connection with slaying of Venezuelan man in Utrecht
The police arrested a 28-year-old man in France for suspected involvement in killing Juan Rivera-Trujillo, who was found dead in his home on Teugelhof in Utrecht on September 28. The suspect was arraigned on Monday and remanded into custody for 14 days, the police said.
The police went to check Rivera-Truijillo’s home on Teugelhof on Thursday afternoon, September 28, after receiving a report from concerned neighbors saying they hadn’t seen him for several days. They found the 58-year-old man dead inside. The police released no further details about what happened to him, only saying that he had been killed in a crime.
“Extensive investigation has been conducted in recent weeks,” leading to the suspect arrested in France. The 28-year-old man with no permanent place of residence was extradited to the Netherlands on Friday, October 20, and arraigned on Monday, October 23. The examining magistrate remanded him into pre-trial detention for 14 days.
“The investigation into Juan’s death continues,” the police said, asking anyone with relevant information to come forward.
According to RTV Utrecht, Rivera-Trujillo was born in Venezuela and had been living in Utrecht for years. He was a well-known face in Utrecht city center. He sometimes dressed as a woman and then lived as Claudia.
