Sixth edition of Amsterdam tulip festival to start on March 31

The organization behind the Tulp Festival Amsterdam says the sixth annual edition of the event will begin on March 31. Hundreds of thousands of tulips will again be planted at dozens of locations all around the Dutch capital, including outside all of the city’s train stations.

Every year, the festival plants an individual tulip to represent every resident and business in Amsterdam. This year, the spectacle will include 30 thousand tulips in the Vondelpark, 25 thousand tulips along Apollolaan, and displays at the Rijksmuseum, Artis Zoo, NEMO Science Museum, Oosterpark, and Nelson Mandelapark.

School children, businesses, residents, and non-profit organizations are encouraged to help plant tulips every autumn. “In this way more than ten thousand tulip bulbs are planted each year around the Vondel monument for example, as well as in various other parks around the capital,” the festival said in a statement.
